Problem Note 15667: SSL support is not available between the SAS® Metadata Server and LDAP

DetailsAboutRate It

SAS® servers which can be configured for Direct Authentication to LDAP, such as the SAS® Metadata Server and the SAS® OLAP Server, do not support LDAP over SSL (also referred to as LDAPS support) in SAS versions prior to 9.3. This restriction extends also to the LDAP CALL Routine Interface and the LDAP SCL Interface.

The SAS LDAP call routines and the SAS servers communicate with LDAP using the Simple Bind mechanism, typically using the TCP port 389. TCP port 636 is the common communications port for SSL.

When attempting to communicate to LDAP over SSL, the bind will fail. You may see one of these common messages in the SAS log:

  • ERROR: Unable to contact the LDAP server.
  • ERROR: The URI scheme ldaps is not supported
  • New client connection (N) rejected from server port 8561 for user userId@ldap.
